P aul Auster, 62, has just published his fifteenth novel: the well-received, extra-broody, sibling-sexy Invisible . Over two glasses of white wine at Sweet Melissa, in Park Slope—where the author has lived with his wife, writer Siri Hustvedt, since the eighties— he tells Tim Murphy that no, he's not depressed, and isn't into incest. How much of Walker, the protagonist of Invisible —a handsome aspiring poet, in 1967, who is juggling a sexually sinister older European professor and a tortured French girlf

A victory over Yale will never be thought of as a consolation prize at Harvard. The Crimson face their historic rivals in the 126th edition of The Game tomorrow afternoon, one week after losing to Penn and missing a chance to clinch an Ivy League title outright. "When you lose a game like that, it hurts deeply. If it doesn't, something's wrong," said Harvard coach Tim Murphy, whose team still can earn a share of its third straight conference championship with a win — if Penn loses to last-place Cornel

A Cook County jury deliberated only four hours before finding former swimming instructor Kevin Skowron guilty of predatory criminal sexual assault against a 4-year-old girl. The verdict Wednesday came after a three-day trial during which the jury heard testimony from the now 5-year-old victim and the 23-year-old Inverness man. Skowron is accused of assaulting the girl last November at a Palatine YMCA pool where he was teaching swimming.

(Despite what George Honchar stated in a Nov. 5 letter to The Signal Item), I have been present at meetings concerning Carnegie Towers and have visited the building. Also at the meetings were Congressman Tim Murphy, state Rep. Nick Kotik, two HUD officials, Carnegie borough manager Whitney Brady, Carnegie Police Chief Jeff Harbin and many Carnegie council members. I have been working behind the scenes on this.

The Pride of South Marching Band from Terre Haute South Vigo High School performed at Lucas Oil Stadium for the Bands of America on Nov. 7. The Pride of South Marching Band has been working on their show "BUGZ!" since late June. The show, written by John Meehan, contains three movements: "The Anthill" (in which members of the color guard are ants), "The Garden" (in which they are flowers and butterflies), and "The Web" (in which they are black widow spiders). This is the first time the Pride of Sout

The band has greatly improved in all areas this year, but if I were to single out one area, it would have to be how the band sounds. The music is written well, the kids are playing it well and having fun with it   -Tim Murphy

A brush fire in a grassy field caused the closure of parts of Hilltown Pike and Valley View Road in Hilltown Township, Bucks County, Tuesday afternoon. The brush fire was caused by a malfunction of an ATV being driven in the field adjacent to a home at 302 Hilltown Pike, Hilltown Police patrolman Tim Murphy said at the scene. The ATV stalled and the ground beneath it caught fire, burning roughly three acres of field, but the driver was not injured and the vehicle was undamaged.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. When defensive coordinator Dean Pees returned to work after New England's stunning loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Bill Belichick was preparing for the Patriots' next opponent. The coach was seemingly unaffected by the wave of criticism stemming from his fourth-down gamble. "As far as I can see right now, it's business as usual," Pees said Tuesday.

Monterey Police Chief Tim Murphy abruptly resigned yesterday, and no one knows or will comment on specific reasons for that decision, other than saying that Murphy plans to "pursue other interests." Officer Larry Bates has been appointed interim chief. Efforts by the Herald-Citizen to reach Tim Murphy this morning were unsuccessful, and this reporter was also unable to make contact with Mayor Richard Godsey, who was reportedly leaving on an out-of-state trip this morning.
